Preparing for an Appointment
Our Staff and Doctors want to make sure that you and your pet get the most from each of their visits. Here are some tips on how to be prepared for your appointment.
If this is your first appointment, either at a new office or with a new pet, bring this information with you:
- Any vaccine history or previous records
- The names and doses of any medication your pet may be taking.
- The kind of food they eat
- Their eating and drinking habits
- Their bathroom habits
- Make sure to mention any recent travel or tick bites
*For yearly wellness exams and appointments addressing digestive upset, we recommend bringing a stool sample along to have checked for intestinal parasites. If you have an exotic pet, check with your veterinarian in advance to see if the sample needs to be stored any special way.
*For some animals, a trip to the vet can be extra stressful. It is always helpful to bring some special toys along from home to make the experience more enjoyable. As long as your pet isn’t coming in for a specific test that requires them to fast, it is a great idea to bring some of their favorite treats along too!
*Always keep dogs on leashes and cats/pocket pets should be in an appropriate carrier when arriving for their appointment.
*Call ahead of time and let the office staff know if your pet doesn’t do well around other animals. Letting us know this ahead of time allows us to appropriately accommodate you and your pet to make your experience as low stress as possible.
*Don’t be afraid to let your veterinarian know if you have a specific budget for your appointment. Figure out ahead of time how much you are able to spend if a test shows your pet will require further treatment.
*Lastly, Don’t be afraid to take notes or ask questions! That’s what our staff is there for!
